Greening of Minnesota and 2016 Fishing Opener

The ice went off Little Sand Lake on April 3 and off of Big Sand on April 17, 2016.  The buds are just appearing on the trees and the grass is beginning to change from the brown of winter to the green of spring.  The greening process was in the Twin Cities on April 20 and progresses to the north by 15 miles each day.  We should be “in the green” by the first of May, two weeks before the 2016 Fishing opener.

We look forward to the return of our guests and a successful vacation trip to the Northwoods.   Review the updated fishing regulations for 2016.  A slot on the walleye on Sand Lake and adjoining waters begins this year.   All walleye from 17-26 inches must be returned to the water immediately.  Bring your camera to keep the memory of the prize catch alive and share with your friends.
