Road construction projects may alter your route to Anchor Inn Resort

With winter behind us and Minnesota’s dash to get road improvements completed, several road construction projects are scheduled in our area which will make it necessary to plan alternate routes.  We are providing this information to assist you and eliminate a last minute travel surprise.  The majority of our customers travel from the south through Deer River turning north onto Minnesota 46.  Beginning May 21 and extending through July, the first ten miles of 46 will be closed due to a resurfacing project.  The following alternate routes to Anchor Inn are provided for your convenience.  The Minnesota Department of Transportation website describes the Highway 46 road improvement

Alternative 1:

In Deer River you can take Minnesota 6, next to the Cenex station, north to Talmoon (about 20 miles).  Turn left onto County Road 4.  Hayslips Corner, “the oldest bar in Minnesota” will be on your right.   Continue west on County Road 4 for 16 miles to Anchor Inn.

Alternative 2:

Proceed on US Highway 2 past the 46 turn off, near the White Oaks Casino and take Itasca Road 39 north  going along the west side of Ball Club Lake.  You will pick up 46 at the 10 mile marker.  Remember the turn off of 46 onto Itasca County Road 34 at the 20 mile marker.  It is easy to get involved in nature on the Avenue of the Pines scenic byway and miss your turnoff.   You are 9 miles from your destination.

If your preferred route is on Minnesota 38 north from Grand Rapids there are two projects scheduled as described on the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  The projects are in Grand Rapids  and north of Grand Rapids  .  We encourage you to use one of the alternatives described above for your travel plans during the 2018 vacation.

Anchor Inn also recommends checking all road construction in Minnesota to check other projects which may effect your travel from home.
